![]() ![]() While I wouldn't dare to run 2 full progression wizards, 1 is a very good idea in IWD2, as they'll cast very, very strong spells with Greater Spell Focus, and Greater Spell Penetration. Mages are MUCH better in 3rd vs 2nd ed, as they get bonus feats. Animte Dead as a 3rd level spell is gamebreakingly good almost. In addition to the extra shapeshifting forms, the Avenger gets a bunch of Wizard spells, many of which happen to be evocation spells (a good compliment to a Conjurer who can't cast any).Clerics are incredibly good. It's just a big indiscriminate circle of pain. The only downside is that Insect Plague in IWD isn't party friendly like in BG2. Late game trolls are a joke when you can turn into a fire elemental. ![]() Call Lightning, while powerful, is wasted as most combat takes place indoors or underground. The Mold Plague spell has great potential but it's hard to execute safely as it's a touch spell and the infection can easily spread to your own party. The others are alright in that they do more damage than the druid would swinging a weapon and healing 12 points isn't too shabby either. The beetle is a tank, the swordspider has a lot of 1d4 attacks (good vs casters) and can't be webbed. The shapeshifting forms are pretty helpful and I've made a point to stop forgetting about them. Monsters run into this unholy concoction and are ground to bits provided the Ranger hasn't shot them to pieces. Spike Growth (and it's double strength cousin 'Stone Growth') forms the main component to the killing floor, followed by w/e immobilization spells are on hand (Grease, Web, Entangle, stinking cloud). If I knew how good druids were when I first played IWD, I would have probably brought one instead of a Cleric (and given the amount of undead in the game that's saying something). There are a number of scripts that can work well but ones that involve auto-stealthing can be annoying for your casters trying to apply single target healing and buff spells. Racial affinity for Longswords means you won't be outta luck if cornered. Longbow gets ridiculous when you find the 'Messenger' in the Dragon's Eye dungeon that grants 3 attacks per round. I like my wizards throwing darts so the 'ranged' script works out just fine.Įlven Ranger (Archer Kit). Human Specialist Wizard (Conjurer), Strictly better than a mage due to receiving one bonus spell slot per spell level. I suggest either the 'Thief-Adventurer' or Thief - Controlled script to manage trap finding. w/AD&D Backstab rules it's just fine, the thief levels up quickly. Halfling Thief, Kinda regretting this because with 3e sneak attack enabled stealth skills aren't as valuable. I recommend the 'Control' Script which lets you toggle between turning the undead and attacking. Human Cleric of X (Lathander), Cleric Kits are strictly better than vanilla Cleric so pick one with the perks you like. Half-Orc Fighter (19 Strength, two-handed swords/two-handed style) *this meatshield does some butchering of his own!) Remember to add keywords if your query is a specific one.
